It looks like Japan's government now taking privacy protection issues a little more seriously. Anyway while I can supply up to date information just out from the US, Canada and Europa better and faster than government bureaucrats, there is a chance I can make a bit of effects in their policy. Because you know that there are always almost no Japanese attendee except me at the Computers Freedom & Privacy conference every year...
I see many searches coming from Europe to nationalid.hantai.jp/. While there're not many news sources covering the issue, the site may be informative. If you are curious what is going on in Japan, below are some of good sources in English.
