« Moore's Law is over? | Main | Notes on Democracy » Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop ShoppingFrom AlterNet, this is a great followup to "Buy Nothing Day": a piece that starts as a consideration of Reverend Billy and his Church of Stop Shopping – a bit of anticonsumerist street (or mall) theatre in New York City, and gets to the difficult question, whether anti-consumerist rants blame the victim, whether they undermine the economic machinery that puts bread on so many millions of tables. Perhaps questioning the human costs of our financial well-being is a good first step toward some rethinking... which I personally will do as soon as I'm through Christmas shopping..... Thanks for the good link. The critical-yet-progressive view of the anti-consumer movement is helpful. I feel both sympathies and ambivalence towards it. The article sheds some light on that dilemma.
