Staring into Space

Staring out the window for a sec... a flock of birds flew by, sun is setting, I realized I haven't looked out that window in enough lately. Kids run in and out, candles burn, the fan stirs the air, and I keep pounding keys...

I'm editing a book with Mitch Ratcliffe, and at the same time I'm in the last phase of the Wireless Future project, producing a conference-within-a-conference that's just a week away. And there's other stuff, but the point is that this is a stretch of a few weeks that's way more crowded than usual, so I haven't been blogging much even though I'm throwing off a lot of sparks I'd like to channel into some kind of narrative.

One other thing I'm doing that's interesting is coordinating with a bunch of tech-savvy activists who worked on the Howard Dean campaign. The convergence of social software with political activism has just begun. Mitch and I, along with Joi Ito, Adina Levin, and Zack Rosen, will talk more about this at SXSW Interactive. Our presentation is called "Weblogs and Emergent Democracy," though it's about more than just weblogs. And democracy is just an intention.

Any parties? Well...

It's PARTY time... And YOU are invited...

EFF / CREATIVE COMMONS JAMBOREE
"Beware the Ides of March"
Monday, March 15 8:00 pm
El Sol y La Luna, 1224 S Congress Ave

It's time for the annual cyberactivist jam honoring the exceptional work
of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and EFF-Austin, joined this year by our friends from Creative Commons and Common Content!

A plethora of delicious Mexican munchies from El Sol y La Luna will be
served... Right in the heart of Austin's uber-cool SoCo district.

Electronic music by Thomas Fang, Gift Culture, and David Demaris. Video
art by mc squared. ABSOLUTELY NO COVER! Party coordinated by EFF-Austin.

And get there early, as this celebration (traditionally during
SxSW-interactive) tends to get very crowded very quickly!

2004 EFF-A T-shirts will be on sale.

Please help us order enough food by RSVP'ing via email to
rsvp at effaustin.org.

Get some sleep, in with all that organizing and writing and blogging and smelling the candles, because we are all looking forward to your sxsw presentation, and don't want you dozing off in the middle of it...
