« Subtle Technologies | Main | The King Kong of flowers » How many more?Yesterday I saw a truck with a "Support our troops" ribbon and a list of soldiers – evidently a list of the driver's family members who're in the military and probably in Iraq. ![]() Later Marsha and I were discussing how nobody seems to be thinking about the war, and I mentioned this truck as an exception – certainly people who have family members in Iraq are very aware of the war, however they might feel about it. I was saying how the best way to support our troops would be to bring them home... if you want to know why I feel that way, read this. Marsha suggested a different kind of bumpersticker, and I created it at CafePress: jon posted this at 2:16 PM |

The other day I made the mistake of getting into a political discussion with two guys who openly support the war but not the troops. According to them, most people in the military "joined because they like to blow things up" and they have no sympathy for whiners who complain because they're called upon to do what they signed up to do.
I don't know why I'm astonished. I know supporters and opponents of the war who claim support for the troops, and opponents of the war who view the troops as war criminals; it had never occurred to me that there was a fourth cell in the contingency table of people who like the war and view the troops as losers who got what's coming to them. Were these guys an aberration or are there more out there like them?
P.S. The other day I saw my first 12-inch magnetic yellow ribbon that said "My ribbon is bigger than yours."
